Our History

Temple Baptist Church is an Independent, Fundamental, Bible-believing, Bible-preaching Baptist Church.

The Lord laid it upon the heart of Bro. Loma Gwinn to start an independent Baptist church in the Carlisle area. Receiving authority to do so from the Grace Baptist Church in Middletown, Bro. Gwinn began holding services in a store front building on October 11, 1959. The church was organized in May, 1963. Bro. Gwinn pastored TBC for 27.5 years, until he resigned in1987. Bro. Robert Smith became the pastor in June, 1987. In June, 1992, Bro. Walter Miller and several members of the United Baptist Church in Miamisurg, Ohio, joined TBC, and Bro. Miller became co-pastor of the church along with Bro. Smith until his home-going in April, 2010. Bro. Smith continued as pastor until he resigned in 2012. Bro. Barry Shaff pastored the church for a brief time, from September, 2012 to August, 2013. TBC was without a pastor until they called Bro. Earl Rosenbalm on July 20, 2014. He began his duties as pastor on August 3, 2014. On August 19, 2018 Temple Baptist Church called Brother Dan Sowards to be their Pastor. Pastor Sowards and his family are glad to be serving at Temple Baptist Church.

God has blessed TBC through the years, and He is still doing so. The members of Temple Baptist Church look forward to what God has in store for them in the future.
